Baby Steps for New Twitter Users
1. Start your account, add a picture and write a description about yourself.
2. Learn some of the terminology:
3. Start “lurking and learning” from the people you follow.
4. Find 3 people to follow from those you are already following. Try this once a week...this is how you grow your PLN!
5. Join a Twitter chat just to listen
6. Keep trying different Twitter chats...be bold and ask a question!
7. Continue 3-6 till you feel comfortable...Congratulations, you’re ready to move beyond baby steps in Twitter!
1. Start your account, add a picture and write a description about yourself.
- Choose your Twitter handle with thought. This is the name that will be attached to each of your tweets (ex. @luvstchin)
2. Learn some of the terminology:
- Following: who you will follow on Twitter. This can depend on your grade level, curriculum content, or interests.
- Timeline: where your tweets and the tweets of those you are following will appear
- Notifications: public messages sent to you on Twitter
- Messages: inbox private messages
- Hashtags: a combination of letters and numbers used to classify your tweets (ex. #edtech #4thchat #ntchat #sced
- Twitter chats: people gather on Twitter at a specified time to discuss current educational issues. Each tweet sent out during that time will have the hashtag that identifies the group. Use this Twitter document to help you identify major hashtags/Twitter chats within the educational community.
